CAD Designer

Summary

The Electrical CAD Drafter is responsible for creating and maintaining detailed electrical drawings and plans using computer-aided design (CAD) software. This position involves collaborating with engineers, architects, and other leadership personnel to ensure that electrical designs are accurately represented and comply with relevant codes and standards.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Drawing Creation: Produce detailed electrical drawings, schematics, wiring diagrams, and layouts using CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD, MicroStation) based on input from engineers and designers.
  • Compliance: Ensure that electrical drawings and plans adhere to applicable industry codes and standards, such as the National Electrical Code (NEC) and local building codes.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with electrical engineers, architects, and other team members to incorporate design changes, revisions, and feedback into the drawings.
  • Documentation: Create and maintain a library of electrical symbols, templates, and standard details to streamline the drafting process.
  • Quality Control: Review and check drawings for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with project requirements.
  • Coordination: Collaborate with other drafting and design teams (e.g., mechanical, structural) to ensure proper integration of electrical systems into the overall project design.
  • Material Lists: Prepare material lists and quantity take-offs based on the drawings to support procurement and cost estimation.
  • Project Support: Assist in responding to requests for information (RFIs) and provide technical support during the construction phase of projects.
  • Software Proficiency: Stay up-to-date with the latest CAD software tools and features to optimize drafting efficiency.


Position Requirements

  • Position requires extended hours, which will vary depending on job and site requirements. Each job will require their own specific hours of operation.
  • May need to work weekends if business needs require
  • Regular attendance is a necessary and essential function

Physical & Cognitive Requirements

  • Able to lift up to 20lbs. regularly
  • Must be able to traverse in all weather conditions and work in extreme temperatures
  • Position requires the ability to stand, squat, & reach
  • Must be able to stand and walk continuously through shift
  • Must be able to climb stairs and ladders
  • Ability to exercise precaution in the handling of tools and equipment
  • May be exposed to dust, fumes, and odoriferous working conditions
  • Crouch, kneel, bend, or stand for long periods of time
  • Must be able to sit at a desk for 8 plus hours per day
  • Be subject to motor or machine noise
  • Regular attendance is a necessary and essential function

Skills and Qualifications

  • A degree / diploma in electrical engineering, electrical design, or a related field is preferred.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD, Revit, Trimble, Navisworks is essential. (3+ years’ experience preferred)

Knowledge / Skills / Abilities

  • Strong knowledge of electrical systems, codes, and standards.
  • Familiarity with electrical codes, regulations, and safety standards.
  • Experience with electrical testing, commissioning, and troubleshooting.
  • Proficiency in reading and interpreting electrical design drawings, specifications, and technical documentation.
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work in a dynamic and fast-paced construction environment.
  • Strong organizational and time management abilities.
  • Understanding of construction practices and safety protocols.
  • Ability to multitask, prioritize, and meet deadlines in a dynamic environment.
  • Knowledge of procurement and subcontractor management.
  • Understanding of construction industry regulations and best practices.


Compensation & Benefits

Commensurate with experience, paid weekly. The Company reserves the right to adjust ranges depending on the qualifications of the selected candidate.
