Summary

The Control Panel Technician is a skilled professional responsible for the assembly, wiring, and testing of electrical control panels used in various industrial and commercial applications. These panels control machinery, equipment, and processes in industries such as manufacturing, automation, energy, and more.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Panel Assembly: Read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and engineering drawings to understand the layout and components of control panels. Select appropriate materials, components, and wiring based on specifications. Mount electrical components such as relays, switches, circuit breakers, and terminal blocks onto panel enclosures. Assemble and wire control panels in accordance with industry standards and safety regulations.
  2. Wiring and Termination: Wire control panels accurately and neatly, following the established wiring diagrams. Route, label, and organize wires to ensure clarity and ease of troubleshooting. Terminate wires, cables, and connections at appropriate points using standard wiring techniques.
  3. Testing and Quality Assurance: Conduct thorough testing of control panels to verify proper wiring, connectivity, and functionality. Perform continuity checks, voltage tests, and functional tests to ensure panels operate as intended. Troubleshoot and rectify any wiring or functional issues identified during testing.
  4. Safety and Compliance: Ensure all wiring and connections comply with electrical codes and safety standards. Adhere to established safety protocols and guidelines while working with electrical components and power sources.
  5. Documentation: Maintain accurate documentation of panel assembly processes, including wiring diagrams, test reports, and quality control checklists. Collaborate with engineers and project managers to ensure documentation accuracy and completeness.
  6. Collaboration: Collaborate with engineers, designers, and other team members to clarify specifications and resolve any discrepancies. Provide input on design improvements and suggestions for optimizing panel assembly processes.
  7. Maintenance and Repair: Perform maintenance, repairs, and modifications on existing control panels as needed. Diagnose and troubleshoot issues in control panels, identifying faulty components and replacing them.
  8. Continuous Learning: Stay updated with industry trends, new technologies, and advancements in control panel assembly techniques.
  9. Perform other duties as required or assigned by leadership.

Position Requirements

  • Position requires extended hours, which will vary depending on job and site requirements. Each job will require their own specific hours of operation.
  • May need to work weekends if business needs require
  • Regular attendance is a necessary and essential function

Physical & Cognitive Requirements

  • Able to lift up to 50 lbs. regularly
  • Must be able to traverse in all weather conditions and work in extreme temperatures
  • Will sit in a chair on a computer, at times, for more than 8 hours / day
  • Must be able to stand and walk continuously through shift
  • Wear PPE (Personal Protective Equipment), respirator, when required
  • May be exposed to dust, fumes, and odoriferous working conditions
  • Regular attendance is a necessary and essential function

Skills and Qualifications

  • Must possess or be able to obtain UL 5008A MTR Certification
  • Experience in panel building, controls and instrumentation required
  • Highschool diploma or equivalent
  • A solid understanding of electrical systems, circuits, and equipment is essential for an electrician.

Knowledge / Skills / Abilities

  • Strong knowledge of electrical systems, components, and construction practices.
  • Familiarity with electrical codes, standards, and regulations.
  • Ability to interpret electrical design drawings, specifications, and related documentation.
  • Detail-oriented with a focus on accuracy and precision in drawings.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills related to electrical systems.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration abilities.
  • Familiarity with electrical construction practices and terminology.

Compensation & Benefits

Commensurate with experience, paid weekly. The Company reserves the right to adjust ranges depending on the qualifications of the selected candidate.
