Summary

The Instrument Tubing Fitter is responsible for the installation, fabrication, and maintenance of tubing systems for electrical instruments and control devices. They ensure proper routing, connection, and functionality of tubing to facilitate the transmission of fluids, gases, or electrical signals.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Instrument Installation: Install, mount, and connect electrical instruments and control devices according to technical specifications, electrical diagrams, and manufacturer's instructions. Ensure proper wiring, grounding, and integration with control systems.
  • Maintenance and Calibration: Perform routine maintenance, inspections, and calibration of electrical instruments and control systems to ensure accuracy and reliability. Follow maintenance schedules and procedures, document activities, and maintain records of calibration and maintenance activities.
  • Troubleshooting and Repair: Diagnose and troubleshoot electrical and instrumentation issues, such as faulty wiring, sensor malfunctions, or control system failures. Use appropriate tools, testing equipment, and technical knowledge to identify problems and implement effective repairs.
  • Control System Programming: Assist in the programming, configuration, and modification of control systems, such as Distributed Control Systems (DCS) or Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC). Collaborate with control system engineers to ensure proper integration and functionality.
  • Safety and Compliance: Adhere to safety regulations, company policies, and industry standards when working on electrical instruments and control systems. Follow lockout/tagout procedures, wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE), and maintain a safe working environment.
  • Documentation and Reporting: Maintain accurate documentation of instrument maintenance, calibration, repairs, and inspections. Generate reports on equipment status, findings, and recommendations for improvement. Update technical manuals, diagrams, and drawings as required.
  • Collaboration and Communication: Collaborate with other technicians, engineers, and operations personnel to resolve instrumentation-related issues. Communicate effectively to convey technical information, provide updates on maintenance activities, and coordinate work with other departments.
  • Preventive Maintenance: Implement preventive maintenance programs for electrical instruments and control systems. Perform regular inspections, cleaning, and testing to identify and address potential issues before they cause system failures or production disruptions.
  • Spare Parts Management: Maintain an inventory of spare parts, tools, and equipment necessary for instrument maintenance and repair. Coordinate with procurement to ensure timely availability of required items.
  • Continuous Learning: Stay updated with advancements in electrical instrumentation technology, industry best practices, and safety standards. Attend training programs, workshops, and seminars to enhance knowledge and skills in instrumentation and control systems.
  • Perform other duties as required or assigned by leadership.

  • Ability to meet the cut score on the National Center for Construction Education and Research (NCCER) Skill Assessment
  • Position requires extended hours, which will vary depending on job and site requirements. Each job will require their own specific hours of operation.
  • May need to work weekends if business needs require
  • Regular attendance is a necessary and essential function
  • Minimum 4 years craft-specific experience

Physical & Cognitive Requirements

  • Able to lift up to 50 lbs. regularly
  • Must be able to traverse in all weather conditions and work in extreme temperatures
  • Will sit in a chair on a computer, at times, for more than 8 hours / day
  • Must be able to stand and walk continuously through shift
  • Wear PPE (Personal Protective Equipment), respirator, when required
  • May be exposed to dust, fumes, and odoriferous working conditions
  • Regular attendance is a necessary and essential function

Skills and Qualifications

  • Associate degree or vocational certification in Electrical Engineering Technology, Instrumentation, or a related field.
  • Relevant experience as an Electrical Instrument Technician or in a similar role in an industrial or manufacturing environment.
  • Strong knowledge of electrical instruments, control systems, and process instrumentation.
  • Familiarity with electrical codes, safety regulations, and industry standards (e.g., NEC, ISA).
  • May be required to have a TEXAS Electrical license if working in the State of Texas
  • 1 -2 years as an Instrument Tech helper/apprentice or related electrical/instrumentation field
  • 1 -2 years as Instrument Tech journeyman level
  • Formal documented craft training in the Instrumentation field may substitute for helper/apprentice experience
  • TWIC card may be required

Compensation & Benefits

Commensurate with experience, paid weekly. The Company reserves the right to adjust ranges depending on the qualifications of the selected candidate.
