Summary
The Junior Estimator plays a crucial role in supporting the estimating team by assisting with cost analysis and preparing estimates for construction projects. They work under the supervision of senior estimators and contribute to the accurate and timely estimation of project costs. Their primary goal is to provide accurate and competitive cost estimates to help clients make informed decisions and ensure successful project execution.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Cost Estimation Support: Assist senior estimators in analyzing project specifications, drawings, and related documents to support the development of cost estimates. This may involve reviewing plans, performing takeoffs, and researching materials and labor requirements.
- Quantity Takeoff: Assist in quantifying the quantities of materials, equipment, and labor required for construction projects. This includes reviewing project documentation, performing measurements, and using software tools or spreadsheets to calculate quantities accurately.
- Material Pricing and Procurement: Collaborate with suppliers and subcontractors to obtain pricing information for materials and equipment. Assist in preparing requests for quotes (RFQs) and evaluating supplier bids to ensure competitiveness and accuracy. Contribute to the procurement process by assisting with material ordering and tracking.
- Cost Analysis: Support the analysis of project costs, including materials, labor, equipment, and subcontractor expenses. Help in verifying cost data, comparing estimates to historical data or benchmarks, and identifying areas for potential cost savings or value engineering.
- Estimating Software and Tools: Utilize estimating software and tools to assist in the preparation of cost estimates and proposals. Learn and familiarize yourself with industry-standard software and tools used for takeoff, cost analysis, and bid preparation.
- Documentation and Reporting: Maintain accurate records of estimating activities, including project documents, correspondence, and cost data. Assist in preparing reports and summaries to communicate estimating outcomes and progress to project stakeholders and management.
- Collaboration and Coordination: Work closely with the estimating team, project managers, engineers, and other stakeholders to ensure the accuracy and completeness of estimates. Collaborate with colleagues to share information, resolve discrepancies, and ensure consistency in estimating practices.
- Continuous Learning and Development: Stay updated with industry trends, construction methods, materials, and estimating techniques. Seek opportunities for professional development, such as attending training sessions, workshops, or industry conferences.
- Perform other duties as required or assigned by leadership.
Position Requirements
- Position requires extended hours, which will vary depending on job and site requirements. Each job will require their own specific hours of operation.
- May need to work weekends if business needs require
- Regular attendance is a necessary and essential function
Physical & Cognitive Requirements
- Able to lift up to 20lbs. regularly
- Position requires the ability to stand, squat, & reach
- Must be able to stand and walk continuously through shift
- Must be able to climb stairs and ladders
- May be exposed to dust, fumes, and odoriferous working conditions
- Must be able to sit at a desk for 8 plus hours per day
- Regular attendance is a necessary and essential function
Skills and Qualifications
- Minimum 0-2 years of Estimating experience
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management or a similar field; combination of relevant education and experience considered in lieu of degree
- Must be able to pass a Drug and Background screen
Knowledge / Skills / Abilities
- Good knowledge of local and national electrical codes
- Ability to read and understand civil, architectural, structural, mechanical, etc. plans and specifications to include drawings, proposals and other relevant documents
- Bluebeam knowledge and experience
- Knowledgeable of electrical materials and methods of installation
- Proficient with Microsoft Office applications and estimating software
- Excellent analytical, organizational, verbal, written, and communication skills
Compensation & Benefits
Commensurate with experience, paid weekly. The Company reserves the right to adjust ranges depending on the qualifications of the selected candidate.
