Summary

Safety Technician plays a vital role in fostering a safe and healthy work environment, protecting employees, and ensuring compliance with safety regulations. They are instrumental in creating a culture of safety within an organization, minimizing risks, and responding effectively to emergencies.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Risk Assessment: Conduct regular risk assessments to identify potential hazards in the workplace. Analyze work processes, equipment, and facilities to determine potential safety issues.
  2. Inspections and Audits: Perform routine safety inspections to ensure compliance with local, state, and federal safety regulations. Conduct safety audits to assess the effectiveness of existing safety programs and identify areas for improvement.
  3. Training and Education: Develop and conduct safety training programs for employees, emphasizing best practices and compliance with safety regulations. Provide information and educational materials to promote awareness of safety policies and procedures.
  4. Incident Investigation: Investigate accidents, near misses, and other incidents to determine the root cause and implement corrective actions. Prepare detailed reports on incidents, including recommendations for preventing future occurrences.
  5. Emergency Response Planning: Develop and implement emergency response plans, including evacuation procedures and first aid protocols. Coordinate with relevant authorities and emergency services to ensure a prompt and effective response in the event of an emergency.
  6. Safety Equipment and Gear: Monitor and maintain safety equipment, such as fire extinguishers, first aid kits, and personal protective equipment (PPE). Recommend and procure new safety equipment as needed.
  7. Documentation: Maintain accurate records of safety inspections, training sessions, and incidents. Prepare and submit reports to management detailing safety performance and areas for improvement.
  8. Regulatory Compliance: Stay informed about changes in safety regulations and ensure the organization's compliance with relevant laws and standards. Advise management on necessary actions to maintain compliance.
  9. Communication: Communicate safety policies and procedures clearly to all levels of the organization. Foster a culture of safety awareness through regular communication and engagement with employees.
  10. Collaboration: Work closely with other departments, including human resources, facilities management, and operations, to address safety concerns and implement solutions. Collaborate with external safety professionals and regulatory agencies as needed.
  11. Continuous Improvement: Identify opportunities for continuous improvement in safety processes and procedures. Implement proactive measures to prevent accidents and improve overall safety performance.
  12. Hazardous Material Management: Oversee the proper handling, storage, and disposal of hazardous materials in accordance with regulations.
  13. Perform other duties as required or assigned by leadership.

Position Requirements

  • Position requires extended hours, which will vary depending on job and site requirements. Each job will require their own specific hours of operation.
  • May need to work weekends if business needs require
  • Regular attendance is a necessary and essential function

Physical & Cognitive Requirements

  • Able to lift up to 60lbs. regularly
  • Must be able to traverse in all weather conditions and work in extreme temperatures
  • Position requires the ability to stand, squat, & reach
  • Must be able to stand and walk continuously through shift
  • Must be able to climb stairs and ladders
  • Ability to exercise precaution in the handling of tools and equipment
  • May be exposed to dust, fumes, and odoriferous working conditions
  • Crouch, kneel, bend, or stand for long periods of time
  • Be subject to motor or machine noise
  • Regular attendance is a necessary and essential function

Skills and Qualifications

  • Associates degree in a related field is preferred.
  • Leadership skills to foster a strong safety culture and manage safety teams.
  • CPR and First Aid Trained REQUIRED
  • 2+ years of experience in field construction safety
  • OSHA30 Certification REQUIRED
  • Excellent communication skills for conveying safety information to diverse audiences.
  • Strong problem-solving skills to address safety concerns and incidents effectively.
  • Project management skills to coordinate safety programs and initiatives.
  • Interpersonal skills for collaborating with employees, contractors, and regulatory agencies.

Knowledge / Skills / Abilities

  • Comprehensive understanding of occupational health and safety regulations (OSHA, local regulations, industry-specific standards).
  • In-depth knowledge of safety protocols, procedures, and best practices across various industries.
  • Familiarity with emergency response planning and crisis management strategies.
  • Understanding of risk assessment and hazard identification methodologies.
  • Leadership skills to foster a strong safety culture and manage safety teams.

Compensation & Benefits

Commensurate with experience, paid weekly. The Company reserves the right to adjust ranges depending on the qualifications of the selected candidate.
